- Is the Penn Memory Center the right fit for you?
As a research clinic, we participate in a national research effort to develop better ways to diagnose and treat diseases that cause problems with memory and thinking in later life, such as Alzheimer's disease.
Our mission is to improve the quality of lives of patients and their families and develop better ways to diagnose and treat the diseases that cause memory and thinking problems.
Our focus is the late-life dementing illnesses and we are specially set up for persons who are 55 and over.
A visit here typically takes two to three hours. We like to see the patient and a family member. Both complete a variety of questionnaires and tests. Many of these are used to better understand how the patient and family member are doing, some though are purely for research purposes. People evaluated in the Penn Memory Center must be willing to sign a consent form that gives permission for their clinical data to be part of a confidential research database. The clinician who evaluates the patient will order tests such as an MRI of the brain and in some cases a spinal fluid sample
