Translational Research Mission | Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) | Laboratories Introduction Translational Research: • provides researchers with the tools they need to translate laboratory insights into safe and effective cancer therapies; • has a cadre of faculty researchers focused on developing ways to enhance the ability of the natural immune system to recognize and eliminate tumor cells; • studies the origin of breast cancer and endeavors to use this insight to improve detection and treatment; and • identifies and tests the effectiveness of new drugs in preventing or treating cancer. Translational Research Mission The mission of Translational Research at the Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute is to promote patient-based testing of novel molecular and cellular therapies developed at the University of Pennsylvania. The overall goal of Translational Research is to accelerate the pace of advances in cancer therapy by enhancing research in the early stages of translation to the clinical setting. Furthermore, Translational Research will strive to strengthen the links between the strong University-wide foundation in basic research with clinicians and patients. To accomplish this mission, Translational Research will: • Serve as a central resource of pertinent information and expertise in cellular therapies for researchers at the University. • Assist University faculty with the application of pertinent regulatory requirements for cell based therapies. • Provide resources and expertise to University researchers to assist in the translation of their work to the clinical setting in the Cancer Center. Laboratories Translational Research consists of the Clinical Cell and Vaccine Production Facility (CVPF) and five laboratories: • The Coukos Laboratory • The Greene Laboratory • The June Laboratory • The Levine Laboratory • The Vonderheide Laboratory Translational research is a core unit of the The Leonard and Madlyn Abramson Family Cancer Research Institute at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. Created in December 1997 with a $100 million pledge from the Abramson Family Foundation, the Cancer Research Institute integrates research, education, and comprehensive patient care at the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
