Research and/or Clinical Interests:
Dr. Elo's research focuses on social class and racial/ethnic differences in health and mortality across the life course.

Summary:
Dr. Elo has a long-ongoing research interest in how societal inequalities affect health outcomes. She has made substantive and methodological contributions in the areas of racial/ethnic and socioeconomic differences in health and mortality and the effects of early life conditions on adult health. In the last few years, she has added major new dimensions to her research by combining her interest in racial/ethnic and socioeconomic inequalities in health and mortality and her interests in family sociology and the importance of early life conditions on health with a support of a major NICHD grant of which she is the PI to examine racial/ethnic and neighborhood disparities in infant and child health in Philadelphia with a survey of low-income women.
