Research and/or Clinical Interests:
Evaluate and treat HIV-related cytopenias and cancers, in particular, Kaposi's sarcoma, cervical and anal carcinoma, and lymphoma.
Summary:
HIV is associated with Kaposi's sarcoma, cervical and anal cancers, and lymphoma. Our research interest is centered around the national trials, currently running to evaluate and treat these four cancers, especially in the era of HAART therapy.
In addition, HIV patients develop anemia, leukopenia, and thrombocytopenia. This may be disease related, medication related, or other infection related (hepatitis C with its treatment of interferon/ribavirin). We are interested in evaluating the incidence, prevalence, and etiology of these cytopenias and their treatment.
