Keywords: Adolescent sexual risk behavior; parent-child sexual communication

Research and/or Clinical Interests:
Parent, partner and ecological influences of HIV-related sexual risk behavior among adolescents and young women

Summary:
Dr. Hutchinson's program of research focuses on the STI-and HIV-risk related attitudes, beliefs, behaviors and prevention among adolescents and women. More specifically, her research addresses the ecological factors (parents, peers, partners and others)that influence STI- and HIV-related sexual risk beliefs and behaviors. Dr. Hutchinson's research is based upon ecological and family-based expansions of Azjen's Theory of Planned Behavior (Azjen, 1985, 1991), and contributes to our ability to conceptualize multi-system-level influences of sexual risk and design family-based and other multi-targeted prevention programs to reduce adolescent HIV-related sexual risk behaviors.
