The Cre recombinase performs site specific recombination of DNA. The structure of the protein-DNA complex was determined by Greg Van Duyne and his lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics.

Lac Represssor-DNA complex

The lac operon of E.coli is the paradigm for gene regulation. The key component of the operon is the lac repressor, a product of the lacI gene. The structures of the lac repressor and its complexes with DNA and inducer have been determined by Mitch Lewis and his lab in the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics.
