Dutton's Lab
Protein Monolayer
We are building monolayers of biological proteins on electrodes in order
to study their electron and proton transfer properties. The target
system shown here consists of a gold electrode and a specially modified
surface to which cytochrome c will bind and retain its native characteristics.
The natural biological partners of this protein, such as cytochrome c
oxidase or the bc1 complex, can then be bound as well, and the electrical
and spectroscopic properties subsequently studied.
