Joel Betesh, M.D., F.A.C.P. is the Pennsylvania Hospital Liaison to the Center for Evidence Based Practice. Dr. Betesh did his residency at Hahnemann University and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Geriatrics. His interest in medical informatics dates back to medical school, when he participated in early applications of medical informatics at Harvard University. Since 1985 Dr. Betesh has worked with the National Board of Medical Examiners to develop and deliver computer based clinical encounters as part of the USMLE Step 3 exam. Dr. Betesh is currently Medical Informatics Officer at the Pennsylvania Hospital and Co-chair of the UPHS enterprise-wide informatics committee. Dr. Betesh is a teaching attending at Pennsylvania Hospital and practices Internal Medicine in the office and hospital as part of the Zubrow Kershbaum Cohen Internal Medicine Group. Prior to coming to the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Betesh was Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Graduate Hospital. In the late 1980s Dr. Betesh was Residency Program Director in Internal Medicine at Hahnemann University Hospital. He resides in suburban Philadelphia with his wife Joan and has 3 adult children and 4 grandchildren. In his spare time he gives Bar Mitzvah lessons.
