Julia Lavenberg, Ph.D., RN

Dr. Lavenberg joined CEP in June 2011 as a Research Analyst. She came to us from the School District of Philadelphia’s Office of Research and Evaluation, where she served as Chair of the Research Review Committee. In that position, she was responsible for processing and managing external requests to conduct research with students, faculty and staff in the District. She has also served as the Managing Editor of the Education Group of the Campbell Collaboration, sister organization to the Cochrane Collaboration. As Managing Editor, she coordinated groups of international researchers involved in producing systematic reviews and meta-analyses of educational interventions. In addition, she co-authored the Campbell Collaboration’s Information Retrieval Policy Brief and conducted information retrieval and systematic review workshops in Canada, Denmark, Germany, the UK and the US.
Prior to becoming involved in research, Dr. Lavenberg worked as a staff nurse in critical care and emergency departments, as well as in home care and in public schools. Her current research interests bring together her nursing and research backgrounds and include systematic review and meta-analytic methodology, use of evidence in health policy, and knowledge translation.
Dr. Lavenberg earned her MSEd and PhD in Applied Psychology in Human Development at the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. She received a BA in Psychology from Temple University and an AAS degree in Nursing from Middlesex Community College (NJ). She resides in suburban Philadelphia and is the proud mother of four sons.
