Kefeng (Maylene) Qiu, MA is a biomedical library liaison to the Penn Medicine Center for Evidence-based Practice, and the School of Medicine Liaison for the Biomedical Library at the University of Pennsylvania. She is an active member of the Family Physician Inquiries Network (FPIN), an organization publishing Clinical Inquiries (CIs). Most of the CIs are completed by a team of research authors, librarians and editors following rigorous searching and publishing protocols. Since joining FPIN, she has conducted approximately ten CI projects and was a co-author on two peer-reviewed publications. Recently, she also led a team to develop a search hedge to retrieve guidelines and best practices in Medline with the clinical content area of Infectious Diseases. This collaborative project received support from CEP and the NIH’s National Library of Medicine. The results will be presented at the Medical Library Association (MLA) 2013 Annual Conference. Maylene also serves as a Medical Library Association (MLA) International Cooperation Section Committee member, and is working closely with others to build a network of health informationists at the international level. In this role, she helped to create a communication tool for librarians from different countries, has hosted librarians from other countries in the U.S., and is working to create an international job exchange.
