DrJerryJohnson Welcome to the Center of Excellence for Diversity in Health Education and Research's
home on the World Wide Web!

The primary goal of the Center of Excellence in the School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is to train and foster the development of minority physicians for leadership roles in the field of medicine. Diversity is our goal—whether it is diversity in medical practice, diversity in medical research, or diversity in medical education. In order to fulfill this objective we have created a number of programs, targeted at individuals who are at various stages on this career path, from high school students through junior faculty.

Complementary to this is our objective to promote and disseminate research on health disparities. Research is integral to examining the origins and causes of these disparities along with identifying those who are most at risk. We realize that in order to reduce health disparities based on race, ethnicity, sex, and class we need a range of advocates who will help us investigate the causes of disparities, design effective interventions, and disseminate results. The role of education is twofold; we must educate both those who experience these disparities along with the practitioners and policy-makers who can eliminate them.

If you would like to help us in any part of our endeavor, please do not hesitate to contact us. You can learn more about the Center’s mission and programs from this web site. Thank you for visiting our web site!
