Division of General Internal Medicine

Judy A. Shea
Interim Chief, Division of
General Internal Medicine

The Division of General Internal Medicine was established within the Department of Medicine in 1978, and has gained national and international prominence as a center for general internal medicine research and training.

Our primary care physicians manage nearly 100,000 outpatient visits each year, while our hospitalists discharge 5,000 inpatients per year. These faculty members are responsible for teaching clinical medicine in the office and at the bedside to medical students and residents. The Division's large clinical care programs continue to grow.

Our faculty members concentrate their research efforts in the health evaluation sciences. The Division's faculty members have diverse research interests, including health services research, clinical epidemiology, medical ethics, medical education, and medical informatics.
