Her research program examines the impact of prescription benefit design and reimbursement policies on access to prescription drugs, and the quality and cost of health care in vulnerable patient populations, including elderly, disabled, chronically ill and low-income patients.  In a related area, Dr. Doshi’s work has focused on the prevalence, causes, outcomes, and costs of suboptimal medication use in chronic diseases and the clinical and economic impact of innovative behavioral or policy interventions for improving medication adherence and management.  Dr. Doshi’s research also focuses on methodological issues in cost-effectiveness analysis, and she has co-authored “Economic Evaluation in Clinical Trials” (Oxford University Press), the first book dedicated entirely to this topic.

Dr. Doshi has extensive experience conducting evaluations using Medicare (Part D), Medicaid, VA, and commercial insurance data in diverse disease areas such as cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, mental illnesses, rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory disorders. She is principal investigator on numerous research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, private organizations, and research foundations and has published widely in leading health policy and clinical journals.

In addition to her administrative and research roles, Dr. Doshi lectures on the topics of health insurance and pharmaceutical health services & policy research in the Health Care Management courses for undergraduate and graduate students at the Wharton school and the Master’s in Health Policy Research program for post-MD fellows at the School of Medicine.  She also teaches methodology courses and workshops on cost-effectiveness analyses in randomized trials, analytic techniques to estimate health care cost data, and statistical methods for dealing with selection biases in comparative effectiveness studies using observational data at several national and international scientific meetings.

In recognition of her achievements, she has received several awards and honors including the New Investigator Award from the American Geriatrics Society, the Young Investigator Award from the American Heart Association Scientific Forum on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research, the Bernie O’ Brien New Investigator Award from the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR), and the American Heart Association Pharmaceutical Roundtable Award.  Dr. Doshi currently serves as Co-editor of Value in Health and Associate Editor of Pharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety journal.
