Short Courses: Economic Evaluation in Clinical Trials

Kurs i legemiddeløkonomi
Institutt for helseledelse og helseøkonomi
Oslo, 24.-25. November 2008

Course Description: This 2-day course will examine issues in the design of economic evaluations in clinical trials; sources of price-weights for the evaluation; common methods for the assessment of preference scores; evaluation of costs (didactic session and computer workshop); evaluation of sampling uncertainty for the comparison of cost and effect (didactic session, sampling uncertainty computer workshop, and sample size computer workshop), and the evaluation of the transferability of the results of the evaluation.

Lectures

Computer Programs and Data

Analysis of Cost

  • rchapter5.dta Stata dataset
  • glmdiagnostic.do do file that loadloads the program glmdiag: glmdiag evaluates the link and family for generalized linear models
  • bsmultiv.do bootstrap program custom written for rchapter5.dta. Users can modify the program for their own datasets
  • bsmvpred.dta bootstrapped dataset constructed by use of bsmultiv.do (contains 3000 bootstrapped replications)

Sampling Uncertainty / Sample Size

  • iprogs.do, (revised 05/03/13) immediate form programs for calculating confidence intervals for cost-effectiveness ratios, confidenceintervals for NMB , and the acceptability curve
  • ceagraphs.do, (revised 05/03/13; works with revised iprogs.do only) programs that when used in conjunction with fielleri, accepti, and nmbi graphically display the point estimate and confidence limits for the cost-effectiveness ratio (fiellergraph), the acceptability graph (accgraph), and the point estimate and confidence limits for NMB defined for varying levels of WTP (nmbgraph). The ceagraphsdoc program provides a brief overview of the programs and the syntax for running them
  • bsceaprogs.do, (revised 05/03/13) programs for using a bootstrapped dataset to estimate confidence intervals for cost-effectiveness ratios, confidenceintervals for NMB , and the acceptability curve
  • bsceagraphs.do: (revised 05/03/13) Stata .do file ( works with revised bsceaprogs.do only). programs that when used in conjunction with bsciceri, bsaccept, and bsnmb graphically display the point estimate and confidence limits for the cost-effectiveness ratio (bscicergraph), the acceptability graph (bsaccgraph), and the point estimate and confidence limits for NMB defined for varying levels of WTP (bsnmbgraph). The bsceagraphsdoc program provides a brief overview of the programs and the syntax for running them
  • ssizeprg.do programs for estimating sample size for cost-effectiveness analysis (last updated 4/1/10)
  • ceapowersimulator.do program simulates trials for a given difference in cost, difference in effect, SEs of the difference in cost and effect, correlation of the difference in cost and effect, and alpha level and estimates power:
