Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Anesthesia at the University of Pennsylvania is to practice excellence in the clinical care of patients, to educate physicians to become superior in all aspects of anesthesia practice, and to define the forefront of research relevant to the specialty.

The department, as an integral component of Penn Medicine, manifests its commitment to advancing the specialty through its clinical, educational and research endeavors.

Above all, our purpose is to nurture current and future leaders in anesthesia whose professionalism will bring imagination, commitment and compassion to the medical, scientific, social, and ethical challenges of our society.
