Anesthesia Residency Program

Welcome to the residency program in Anesthesiology and Critical Care at the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Based primarily at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP), and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), the Penn Anesthesia residency provides all of those who complete it with both unparalleled clinical experience and a wide base of scientific knowledge. Our graduates leave residency well prepared to pursue a wide spectrum of career paths, including private practice, subspecialty fellowship, clinical teaching and research.

The department makes its residency available to all applicants who exhibit energy, ambition and a history of academic success. Although the majority of our former residents and fellows work in clinical practice, we also eagerly recruit applicants interested in research. The department welcomes applications from senior medical students through the NRMP ("The Match") or others applying independently.

We invite you to explore the program, its hospitals, and the city of Philadelphia by navigating through our web site. Further, you can may find additional information about our program via the AMA’s residency database, FREIDA, and via the ACGME's Acredited Progams Database.

If you have any questions after exploring the information on this site, please feel free to contact the department:
