Scholarly Study Projects
Scholarly pursuit projects are required, focused, mentored and full-time commitments. This requirement is fulfilled by a 3-month or more project, or by earning a second degree after matriculation into medical school (MD/PhD program). For more information, visit the Scholarly Study Guidelines.

American Society of Anesthesiologists - Medical Student Delegation
The Medical Student Delegation of the American Society of Anesthesiologists was founded in 2003 to encourage medical student participation in the ASA, provide up-to-date resources for medical students pursuing careers in anesthesiology, and to provide opportunities for leadership, research and education in the field of anesthesiology on a state and national level. For more information, visit the American Society of Anesthesiologists web site.

Summer Research Opportunities

FAER Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship
The Medical Student Anesthesia Research Fellowship (MSARF) program provides support to both medical students and host departments for 8 to 12 weeks of anesthesia-related research experience.

Previous awards: Summer 2007, Abhik Roy

Summer Research Employment
Many department laboratories have openings for student employment during the summer months. Such a position is a great way to earn a little extra money, and at the same time get to know some of the faculty and how their research is contributing to perioperative health care. Duties depend entirely on the individual lab.

Penn Work Study Opportunities

As listed above for summer employment, similar opportunies exist for those qualifiying for work-study. After reviewing the research webpage, and the work-study opportunies available, please contact the individual faculty member and Terry Kearns, the work study coordinator for the department.
