David E. Longnecker, MD, Professor Emeritus, Anesthesiology & Critical Care, and the previous Robert E Dripps Professor and Chair, came back to the fold to present Grand Rounds on Thursday, January 19, 2012. The title of his talk, Shaping the Doctors We Want for the System We Need, was a timely presentation. David continues to be a champion for the future of our specialty and academic medicine.

Beverly Orser, MD, PhD, FRCPC, Professor of Physiology and Anesthesia, University of Toronto, Canada Research Chair in Anesthesia, presented the 16th Annual James E Eckenhoff, MD Lecture on September 27, 2012.  Dr Orser’s lecture was entitled, Memory Loss and Anesthesia: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.”   Bev also gave the weekly departmental Research in Progress Seminar on the same day, “Translational Science in Anesthesia: The Tale of Tranexamic Acid and Postoperative Seizures.”  Photo: Rod Eckenhoff (left), Beverly Orser (center), Lee Fleisher (right).

Sixth Annual Stephen J. Prevoznik Lecture on Leadership

At our Grand Rounds on November, 10, 2011, we were pleased to have Karen Domino, MD, MPH, Professor & Vice Chair for Clinical Research in the Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, present the Sixth Annual Stephen J. Prevoznik Lecture on Leadership. The title of her talk was, "ASA Closed Claims Project: Lessons Learned and Current Liability." Several members of the Prevoznik family were in attendance. Karen also presented at our noon Research in Progress Seminar on, "Shared Decision Making in Surgery: Can it Reduce Patient Complaints and Liability?"
