PREDICTIVE STUDIES VII (PS VII): Interactions of Hyperoxia,
Exercise, and Immersion in Neurologic O2 Poisoning.
Major Category: Oxygen toxicity and oxygenation. Immersion. Exercise. (PS
VII)
Subcategory 4: Repeated progressive exercise protocols: 3 times in
succession
Stressors: exercise, repeated, progressive
Date: 1992
Expt. Title: Interactions of repeated progressive exercise protocols (Expt. 13.03)
Description:
See PS VII experiments protocols. Reports. Progressive bicycle ergometer exercise at 60, 100, 125 and 150 watts was completed 3 times in succession with recovery periods of 20 min between the first and second, and between the second and third protocols, by 5 Subjects. The purpose was to determine if ventilation or gas exchange would be affected by the protocol order. This was in preparation for planned investigations of factors influencing CNS tolerance to hyperoxia during exercise and immersion, when repeated exercise protocols would have to be completed within a single working day.
Measurements:
Ventilation, mixed-expired gases for determination of rates of O2 uptake and CO2 elimination.
