PREDICTIVE STUDIES VIII (PS VIII): CO2 and Adaptation to Acute Hypoxia
Major Category: CO2 and adaptation to acute hypoxia (PS VIII)
Subcategory 5: Trained Subjects. Evaluated tests with 10% inspired O2 at 1 ATA. Rest.

Date: April - May 1993

Expt. Title: Experiment Series 5. A full experiment series with physiological and 3 selected tests of mental performance responses to 10% inspired O2, at rest. (Expt. 14.12)

Description:

The three Tests selected from the preceding series were used in 9 trained Subjects during 60 min. exposures to 10% O2 in the rest state, following air controls. The Tests were administered at 35 min. (E1), 45 min. (F1) and 55 min. (G4). Test F1 was in retrospect deselected from consideration as a reliable Test as configured, due to erratic scores over several experiment series. This was deemed due to apparent wide range of difficulty in the Test Items employed i.e., the Test may be rendered reliable if Test Items were preselected for greater uniformity of difficulty than was found in the Items selected by quasi-random selection from the overall Test Item list in the Computer File for that Test.

Measurements:
Physiological:

Arterial O2 saturation, heart rate, end-tidal PCO2 and PO2, ventilation.

Mental Performance:

Word-Number Test of (short term) Associative Memory (PMS Test E1)
Letter Sets (Order) Test of Inductive Reasoning (PMS Test F1)
Division Test of Numerical Ability (PMS Test G4)
