PREDICTIVE STUDIES VIII (PS VIII): CO2 and Adaptation to Acute
Hypoxia
Major Category: CO2 and adaptation to acute hypoxia (PS VIII)
Subcategory 6: Six (6) trained Subjects. Evaluated tests, with 10% O2,
and 10% O2 with 4% CO2 at 1 ATA.
Date: May 1993
Expt. Title: Experiment Series 5. C1. A full experiment series with physiological and 3 selected tests of mental performance responses to 10% inspired O2 at rest, followed immediately by inspiration of 10% O2 with 4% CO2 at 1 ATA. (Expt. 14.13).
Description:
The three tests selected previously were used in 8 Subjects (all of whom participated in the previous Series 5) during inspiration of 10% O2 for 37 min., followed immediately by inspiration of 4% CO2 with 10% O2 for 23 minutes.
Measurements:
Physiological:
Arterial O2 saturation, heart rate, end-tidal PCO2 and PO2, ventilation.
Mental Performance:
Word-Number Test of (short term) Associative Memory (PMS Test E1)
Letter Sets (Order) Test of Inductive Reasoning (PMS Test F1)
Division Test of Numerical Ability (PMS Test G4)
