As a Level 1 Trauma Center, HUP performs 2,600 trauma resuscitations per year, with a breakdown of 75% blunt and 25% penetrating injuries.

There is an active aeromedical program with 3 full time helicopters providing inter-facility transports of unstable patients as well as direct scene transport of critically ill trauma patients.

Trauma resuscitations are managed by a multidisciplinary team, composed of both surgical and emergency medicine residents, with a trauma attending in house 24/7.
