EMERGE: Enabling Medical Research Growth in Emergency Medicine

Education and Training

Research Partners

The key elements for a successful training program in emergency care research are well-established at Penn and include the availability of superb resources in the Department of Emergency Medicine, the Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Emergency Medicine, and a world renowned graduate training program in clinical epidemiology.

The Center for Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the Center for Resuscitation Science, the Center for Injury Research and Prevention, the Center for Simulation, Advanced Education, and Innovation, the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network, the Department of Emergency Medicine, and the Department of Pediatrics’ Division of Emergency Medicine are the primary entities within Penn engaged in clinical epidemiology and emergency medicine research. Superb resources are available.

Further, these entities have established a record of close, frequent, and high quality collaborations. This research has addressed such issues as:

  • resuscitation,
  • chest pain,
  • acute coronary syndromes,
  • pediatric medical emergencies,
  • pediatric injury prevention and trauma care, and
  • critical care.

Many of the faculty participating in EMERGE collaborated or are collaborating on these and other projects focusing on National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-designated areas.
