Quality Improvement and Safety

The Department of Emergency Medicine’s Quality Improvement and Safety Program provides a formal process to objectively and systematically monitor and evaluate the quality, appropriateness, efficiency, safety and effectiveness of care utilizing a multidimensional approach. This approach enables the Department of Emergency medicine to focus on opportunities for improving operational processes as well as patient outcomes and satisfaction. Our approach aligns with the hospital-wide blue print for quality and safety and its focus on five imperatives in practice:

  • Accountability for Perfect Care
  • Patient and Family Centered Care
  • Transitions in Care/Coordination of Care
  • Reducing Unnecessary Variations in Care
  • Provider Engagement, Leadership, and Advocacy

This is accomplished by the Implementation of a multi-disciplinary quality improvement team that effectively and systematically monitors and evaluates the quality and safety of clinical care and helps to disseminate all data through UBCL and Safety teams.
