Emergency Medicine Residency Program

Leaders - Mamtani, DeRoos, Conlon

Welcome to the University of Pennsylvania’s Emergency Medicine Residency Program’s website. We began in June 1996 with a class of 6 residents, and since then have matured into a group of 44 bright, hardworking, and fun-loving residents. Our educational philosophy is to provide outstanding opportunity and mentorship to our trainees. We want graduates to become leaders in their respective career paths. Our four-year curriculum allows residents a greater breadth and depth of clinical experience, with unparalleled exposure to pediatrics and critical care. Ample elective time and schedule flexibility allows the independent and self-motivated to take advantage of all the clinical and intellectual resources both within our department and hospital as well as across our campus in order to customize their training.

We’re located on the University of Pennsylvania campus in West Philadelphia. We care for a tremendously diverse patient population. The combination of the urban, inner city population of West Philadelphia, and patients attracted to the tertiary care specialties available at our internationally recognized institution, make our emergency department a fantastic melting pot, and a stimulating clinical experience. Complement this with our subspecialized faculty and you have created a tremendous educational experience. The faculty members are true leaders in our field. They are active clinicians and researchers and many have been successful academically as presidents and meeting directors for SAEM, editorial boards, reviewers for major journals, national lecturers, and authors of numerous books, chapters and journal publications each year.

Enjoy exploring our website. Hopefully this will give you a good sense about who we are, and the people who make it a great place to train.
