Endocrine Clinical Conference

Endocrine Clinical Conferences take place each Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 p.m. Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) and Children's Hospital of Pennsylvania (CHOP) Endocrine staff attend the conferences.

The schedule is as follows:

HUP Endocrine Fellows present the first and last Wednesday's of each month, Pathology Fellows present the second week, and Pediatric Endocrine Fellows from CHOP present the third week of each month. There is a guest speaker who gives Endocrine Grand Rounds about once a month.

Usually the Endocrine Fellows present patients seen during inpatient consults or outpatient clinics. A case is first presented, followed by a background description of what is known about the clinical or biochemical problem/question that the case poses, and finally a review of recent and pertinent literature helps define the pathophysiology, treatment, or answer.

During the Pathology conference, Endocrine and Pathology fellows present interesting/puzzling Endocrine cases; first the clinical background is provided by the HUP Endocrine Fellow's and then macro/microscopic slides are reviewed by the Pathology Fellow, with comments and discussion by the attendees. The cases are usually emailed to Pathology about 2-3 weeks before the presentation.
