Biography

Dr. Iqbal obtained his medical degree from the Aga Khan University, Pakistan, in 1990. He went to the University of Illinois, Chicago for his Internal Medicine Residency and from there proceeded to the Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, for his clinical fellowship. In 1997, he joined Temple University, Philadelphia, as a post-doctoral fellow and worked in Dr. Guenther Boden’s lab for a year and a half before joining the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital.

His main research interest is in the field of diabetes and insulin resistance syndrome. In Dr. Boden’s lab he studied the effects of free fatty acids and other cytokines on insulin resistance. Currently, he is involved in projects related to the study of obesity and insulin resistance in humans. He is also involved in clinical care and teaching both at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center.
