Welcome to the John G. Haddad, Jr., M.D. Memorial Lecture, which was established by John’s family and friends to commemorate the highest ideals of scholarship in the field of bone and mineral metabolism. John G. Haddad, Jr., M.D. was a world-renowned research scientist in the field of vitamin D metabolism, but his scholarly reach touched every corner of the field of bone and mineral metabolism.

John was a Professor of Medicine and Orthopedic Surgery, and Chief of the Division of Endocrinology at The University of Pennsylvania for 16 years. He was president of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, a member of the Board of Directors of The Paget Foundation and The National Osteoporosis Foundation, as well as, an author of hundreds of original articles on metabolic bone diseases. A list of John’s contributions and accomplishments are voluminous and legendary. Those who knew John will remember him not for what he did, but for who he was: a gentleman, a scholar, and a prince of a human being. John gave to our world in abundance: brilliance, wit, humor, kindness, and a joy of living that would serve us well to relish and remember.

John Haddad was a remarkable man of many facets - a kind and caring physician, a brilliant scientist, an accomplished jazz musician, a thoughtful teacher of literature, an inspiring mentor, a consummate family man and a great pal to his many colleagues and friends throughout the world. His influence will continue in the spirit of these lectures, and in the hearts and minds of all those who knew him.

Frederick S. Kaplan, M.D.
Issac and Rose Nassau Professor of Orthopedic Molecular Medicine
