The University of Pennsylvania Department of Family Medicine and Community Health is excited to announce that it is combining forces with Dr. Gary Dorshimer of Pennsylvania Hospital to offer a new Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship opportunity in Philadelphia. The fellowship is a transition from Dr. Dorshimer’s previous IM-sponsored fellowship to one that will be centered in the UPenn Family Medicine Dept. Our hope is that this change will allow us to offer the best of the opportunities available at both Pennsylvania Hospital and the University of Pennsylvania. This PCSM fellowship will be open to all primary care residents, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and emergency medicine. The fellowship has one position per year. The fellowship will include experiences with the Philadelphia Eagles and Flyers, including coverage at the preseason training camp of the Eagles. Fellows also have exposure to the current champions of the Major Indoor Soccer League, the Philadelphia Kixx, and the Flyers’ AHL affiliate team in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia Phantoms. The experience also exposes the fellow to a broad range of sports through their work with the University of Pennsylvania Athletics Department, UPenn Student Health, and several other local universities and high schools where the fellow covers training room and athletic events. The fellow will work closely with the sports medicine faculty at the University of Pennsylvania Sports Medicine Center, UPenn Student Health, Dr. Dorshimer, and the Pennsylvania Hospital Sports Medicine Department, led by Dr. Arthur Bartolozzi. The application deadline will be November 1st, 2007. Please contact myself or Dr. Dorshimer, the Program Director, directly for additional details at rahul.kapur@uphs.upenn.edu or gadors@pahosp.com.
