Valley Geriatric Education Center (DVGEC)
ABOUT THE DVGEC
The
DVGEC is a program of the University of Pennsylvania’s Division
of Geriatric Medicine. Funding from the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services, Health Resources Services Administration and
Bureau of Health Professions enables the DVGEC to assist professionals
to provide the highest quality geriatric care in acute, primary
and long-term care settings. The
DVGEC's three primary goals and program areas including the following:

Enhance knowledge and skills of direct care staff in the full
continuum of institutional long term care settings by providing
educational material through instructional modules for staff
development professionals across institutional and community-based
sites.
Program: The
DVGEC’s education series entitled “Teaching and
Learning to Care: Training for Caregivers in Long-Term Care
(TLC for LTC),”
is a resource for education of long-term care staff.

Prepare students of different disciplines such as medicine,
nursing, pharmacy and social work, for the primary care of
geriatric patients through innovative opportunities for multidisciplinary
team training.
Program: Our
Interdisciplinary Steering
Committee is preparing a faculty development program for
health professions training programs across the University
and with affiliates.

Provide
evidence-based continuing education for a broad range of physicians
and other health professionals to enhance their knowledge
and skills in the care of older patients.
