ABOUT THE DVGEC

The DVGEC is a program of the University of Pennsylvania’s Division of Geriatric Medicine. Funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Services Administration and Bureau of Health Professions enables the DVGEC to assist professionals to provide the highest quality geriatric care in acute, primary and long-term care settings. The DVGEC's three primary goals and program areas including the following:

  1. Enhance knowledge and skills of direct care staff in the full continuum of institutional long term care settings by providing educational material through instructional modules for staff development professionals across institutional and community-based sites.

Program: The DVGEC’s education series entitled “Teaching and Learning to Care: Training for Caregivers in Long-Term Care (TLC for LTC),” is a resource for education of long-term care staff.

  2. Prepare students of different disciplines such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy and social work, for the primary care of geriatric patients through innovative opportunities for multidisciplinary team training.

Program: Our Interdisciplinary Steering Committee is preparing a faculty development program for health professions training programs across the University and with affiliates.

  3. Provide evidence-based continuing education for a broad range of physicians and other health professionals to enhance their knowledge and skills in the care of older patients.

    Program: Weekly Geriatric Grand Rounds
