Please Note: HUP Staff have
the option of obtaining either a Recreation Card or Courtesy
Appointment Card from the PennCard ID Center. Only one card
can be issued per individual. Please review the following
information for the type of PennCard that best suits your
needs.
Recreation Privileges for HUP, CHOP, and other UPHS
Affiliates
HUP Staff have access to the Hutchinson Gymnasium pool, basketball
courts, squash courts, day lockers and shower facilities at
no cost by presenting their PennID* to our front desk staff.
*HUP Staff must first obtain a Recreation Card from the PennCard
Center before using any facilities. The PennCard Center is
located at 3451 Walnut Street in the Franklin Building; the
phone number is (215) 417-CARD. A Recreation Card costs $15,
which is not applicable to the cost of any membership. A HUP
ID must be presented when purchasing a Recreation Card.
After obtaining a Recreation Card (please wait one business
day) HUP Staff must come to the Membership Services Office
in the Pottruck Center to have their ID activated. This must
be done even for free access to the Hutchinson Gym.
Access to the Pottruck Health and Fitness Center and Penn
Fitness Center (in the Hutchinson Gym) is fee-based. Please

Privileges at University of Pennsylvania Libraries
University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) employees have Penn Libraries privileges including access to all Penn Libaries, borrowing books and other materials, access to online resources such as MEDLINE, MD Consult, and e-journals, use of public computing workstations, and access to the Penn wireless network.
Access to Online Resources:
use PennKey
UPHS staff have access to all online resources provided by the Penn Libraries. Access is available through the Biomedical Library website (http://www.library.upenn.edu/biomed) from any campus location or remotely using the PennKey credential.
Library Building Access: use PennCard, HUP, other UPHS ID
UPHS employees can gain access to any of the Penn Libraries by showing a PennCard, HUP, or other UPHS ID. More information on the specific access policies and hours of each of the Penn Libraries is available at http://www.library.upenn.edu/access/
Borrowing: use PennCard, Rec Card or Biomedical Library barcode number
UPHS staff with PennCards or Rec Cards may use these cards for borrowing materials from the Penn Libraries. These cards must be activated at the Biomedical Library before they can be used. UPHS staff who don’t elect to get a PennCard or Rec Card may use a Biomedical Library barcode number for borrowing and other services. Apply at the Biomedical Library Circulation Desk for a barcode by showing a current institutional ID.
