About the Division of Hematology/Oncology

Penn's Division of Hematology/Oncology is a nationally recognized leader in the research, diagnosis and treatment of all types of cancers and blood-related disorders from the most common to the most complex.

Our physicians provide an integrated approach to patient care. This means patients benefit from a team of experts from various specialties working together to determine the best course of treatment in a supportive, compassionate environment.

Hematology

Hematologists specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders including:

  • Disorders of red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets
  • Coagulation problems including hemophilia
  • Acute and chronic leukemia
  • Myeloma
  • Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma

Medical Oncology

Medical oncology is the specialty of internal medicine that deals with the diagnosis and management of the treatment of cancer. Medical oncologists coordinate your overall care and direct your chemotherapy and related treatments. Our medical oncologists work closely with other cancer specialists to provide you with comprehensive, integrated care. Other caregivers who may become involved in your care include physicians and nurses specializing in surgical oncology, radiation oncology, gynecologic oncology, urology, radiology and pathology. In addition to treating patients, each of our faculty is actively involved in leading-edge research, which means that you benefit from the latest treatment findings as quickly as possible.
