HIV (1 month required rotation)
Educational Purpose: To gain experience in the outpatient management
of HIV infected patients at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania
, Presbyterian Medical Center, The Philadelphia Veterans Administration
Medical Center, a City of Philadelphia Health Clinic, and a community
health clinic.
Clinical
Microbiology (1 month required rotation)
Educational Purpose: To gain experience in the rationale, performance
characteristics, selection and interpretation of diagnostic tests in
the clinical microbiology laboratory.
Hospital
of the University of Pennsylvania (3 months - required rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the management of hospitalized adult patients with infectious diseases
in a tertiary/quaternary setting.
Oncology
& Transplant (1 month each for oncology and transplantation - 2
months requried rotation)
Educational Purpose: To gain experience and expertise in the management
of the infectious complications associated with solid organ and bone
marrow transplantation, as well as other oncology populations. These
services are staffed by Infectious Diseases attending physicians who
spend most of their time consulting with the transplant and oncology
physicians. Our hospital provides the full spectrum of solid organ and
oncology services.
Presbyterian Medical Center (1 month required rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the management of hospitalized adult patients with infectious diseases
and related conditions in a community setting.
Philadelphia
Veterans Administration Medical Center (1 month required rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the management of hospitalized adult patients with infectious diseases
and related conditions in a veterans hosipital.
Pennsylvania
Hospital (1 month elective rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the management of hospitalized adult patients with infectious diseases
and related conditions in a community setting.
The
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Infectious Disease Inpatient Consult
Service (1 month elective rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the management of hospitalized pediatric patients with infectious
diseases and related conditions.
Infection
Control and Quality Improvement (1 month elective rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide an understanding of the principles and
application of quality improvement in infectious diseases activities,
such as infection control and antibiotic management.
Botswana
Elective (6 Week elective rotation)
At the Princess Marina Hospital (PMH), Gaborone, Botswana, which is
the largest public hospital in Botswana, Africa. Educational purpose:
To provide experience working in a developing nation. Fellows will participate
in daily care of patients admitted to the medical ward.
Public
Health (1 month elective rotation)
Educational Purpose: To provide a comprehensive consultation experience
in the evaluation and management of ambulatory patients with core public
health diseases, such as tuberculosis and sexually transmitted diseases,
and to learn the principles of public health practice.
Ambulatory
Experience
One-half day per week of ambulatory experience is integrated into the
first two years of fellowship and include rotations in the outpatient
Infectious Diseases Clinics at the various teaching hospitals.
