Postdoctoral Research Training

The Institute postdoctoral training program provides a basic research experience in areas relevant to environmental medicine. Applicants with an M.D., Ph.D., or equivalent degree elect 1 to 3 years of further training in the disciplines of molecular biology, cellular biology, biochemistry, or applied physiology. Institute Investigators and Adjunct Investigators serve as preceptors. The program currently supports 12 positions with funding from an NIH Institutional National Research Service Award (NRSA) in Lung Cellular and Molecular Biology and individual research grants. A one year Clinical Fellowship for training in hyperbaric medicine is offered by the Institute Clinical Practice. In addition to research, trainees participate in the Institute educational enrichment programs and have full access to all University facilities.

Postdoctoral Clinical Training

The University of Pennsylvania Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine Fellowship is designed to provide licensed physicians the opportunity to be educated and trained in the theory and practice of diving and hyperbaric medicine. Individuals successfully completing the one-year fellowship will obtain sufficient didactic and practical knowledge to work efficiently and competently in a hyperbaric clinical and research environment, to act in a supervisory capacity of a hyperbaric chamber, and meet eligibility requirements to sit for the American Board of Medical Specialists' certification examination for special competency in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.
