Internal Medicine Residency

We are proud of our program’s diversity and are committed to promoting LGBT equality with the residency program, the Department of Medicine, and the health system. Here are several examples of why we think the Penn Internal Medicine Residency Program is a wonderful place to train for LGBT house staff:

  • We have regular social gathering for LGBT residents, fellows, and faculty, making it easy to find mentorship within the LGBT community.
  • LGBT faculty are visible in the leadership of the residency program.
  • Penn Medicine has a comprehensive Program for LGBT Health that promotes advanced clinical care for LGBT patients, high-quality education surrounding best practices to all learners, a welcoming institutional climate, cutting-edge research surrounding LGBT-focused health care, and outreach to our local LGBT community.
  • The Graduate Medical Education office promotes a Health Equity Initiative, which includes the LGBT population.
  • The University of Pennsylvania has one of the oldest and largest University-wide LGBT centers in the country, and the School of Medicine has an active LGBT student group.
  • The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center are both Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality, based on the Human Rights Campaign’s Healthcare Equality Index.

Some current LGBT house staff and faculty in the department of medicine are listed below.  Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
