What Drew you to Program A huge draw for me was the population served by HUP. I wanted to have the opportunity to work for and learn from an underserved population. I was also drawn by how intelligent yet welcoming and friendly the residents were during my away rotation at HUP, and I have not been disappointed since starting internship.
What do you Love About the Program My co-intern class and residents are an extremely impressive group of individuals who are always fun to be around and never hesitate to offer help. The camaraderie here is clear from day one.
Career Interests I hope to pursue cardiology with my main current interest being heart failure.
What do you Love About Philly The icing on the cake is Philly! There is no shortage of amazing restaurants, bars and entertainment in Philly.

What Drew you to the Program So much drew me to Penn’s program. The biggest draws for me were a perfect balance of autonomy and support, the people (both the program leadership and the residents I met), and the amazing teaching.
What do you Love About the Program Everything that drew me to Penn’s program has rung true. I especially love the amazing teaching and the people. The attendings and my co-residents are all remarkably smart, but are modest and real team players at the same time.
Career Interests While I go through each of my rotations with an open mind, I am interested in gastroenterology, particularly inflammatory bowel disease.
What do you Love About Philly It is such a livable city with great food and easy exposure to the outdoors, with many tennis courts, running paths, and hiking trails.

What Drew you to Program Being a Perelman (Penn) medical student, I became familiar with the faculty and the camaraderie. I knew it would be a perfect place to pursue training.
What do you Love About the Program Penn has incredible research opportunities and physician-scientist advisors to guide me in this path.
Career Interests I hope to be in academia but am still working out how to balance the excitement of pipetting in basic science with the thrill of writing discharge summaries.
What do you Love About Philly The city is full of TNTC festivals, restaurants, pop-up bars, concerts and struggling sports teams. It's a lively place to live.

JOHN MORGAN

Medical School University of Utah School of Medicine
What Drew you to Program Philly, wanting to be surrounded by talented, motivated, empathetic co-residents, and the sense that the program truly cared about its residents.
What do you Love About the Program It does care about its residents, as evidenced by its fantastic teaching sessions/support of resident attendance, faculty investment in resident learning, a responsive and approachable program leadership, and Todd.
Career Interests Health care systems, specifically efforts to align financial incentives with what is ultimately best for patients' health. Otherwise undecided in terms of Pulmonary/Critical Care vs Hospitalist vs Cardiology vs everything else.
What do you Love About Philly The city's ability to keep me endlessly entertained on aimless walks, to say nothing of its character and historical/culinary/cultural offerings. Simultaneous proximity to the shore, NYC, and Lancaster county. The views from South Street Bridge at dawn and dusk.

What Drew you to Program The tight-knit nature and down to earth vibe of the residents was evident from the pre-interview dinner. I was also impressed with the level of support and flexibility built into the program.
What do you Love About the Program There is something extra special about the culture at Penn. My favorite co-applicants, with whom I really clicked during various stops along the interview trail, all ended up matching here. My class is a concentration of brilliant, caring, and hilarious people! This sense of teamwork permeates through every aspect of the program—from the leadership’s commitment to wellness to the naturally supportive interactions I have with the attendings. If these types of things are important to you in residency, then you are at the right place.
Career Interests I’m considering a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology, but am looking forward to exploring other things!
What do you Love About Philly The numerous unique beer gardens (both permanent, and “pop-up” in the city’s various parks), museums (the Mutter museum of medical oddities being a favorite), restaurants (too many to name, but during your interview day, stop by Reading Terminal Market), festivals, farmers markets and outdoor spaces have kept me busy!

What Drew you to Program As a student on medicine electives, I was impressed by the residents I worked with. I felt strongly they were the type of doctors I wanted to be. More than anything, it was the people that drew me to the program. My co-residents and program leadership are smart, caring, collaborative and motivated.
What to you Love About the Program My co-residents and the program leadership are smart, caring, collaborative and motivated
Career Interests I am most interested in women's health and cardiology. At this point, I am aiming to become the best internal medicine doctor I can be, so I can live up to the residents I observed during my time in school.
What do you Love About Philly Philadelphia was originally a by-product of coming to Penn, but I learned that I was wrong to think this way! I love living in Philly; there's always a lot going on, easy access to outdoor and athletic activities, free events, and some of the most persistent sports fans I've ever met.
