Getting Started with Knowledge Link

   What is Knowledge Link?

  • Knowledge link is a system that can be used to deliver University, School of Medicine and Health system related training.

 

   What is a “Role” in Knowledge Link?

  • Each member of the Penn Community has a Primary Role in Knowledge Link , this Role is associated with their primary University Affiliation.
  • As an example, your role in Knowledge Link is represented something like:
    • UP.pennkey.SOM-School of Medicine.ADMIN COORDINAT

    • Other "roles" may be assigned based on your job duties.

  What is Required Training?
  • Training that appears on your Knowledge Link Home Page as “Required” is assigned based on your job position or School/Center needs.
  • In addition, other training not listed as required in Knowledge Link may be required based on your position, university affiliation or regulatory requirements.

 

   What is Optional Training?
  • Optional training is training that is generally available to everyone.  See individual courses for specific restrictions.
  • Optional Training will appear under the Optional link and is listed alphabetically by course title.

 

   How do I register for training?
  • When you have identified the training that you want/need to take, click the enroll button to register.

  
What kind of confirmation will I get?
  • Once you have enrolled in training, you will see a confirmation screen that you will be able to print. You will also receive a confirmation email.

    How do I start web-based training?

  • There are two ways to begin web-based training:
    • You can begin training immediately from the confirmation screen by clicking the “Begin Course Now” button.
    • You can begin training later from the "Enrolled In" page by clicking the start button next to the course. 

    How do I enroll in Courses that are part of a package?

    Can I begin web-based training and return to it later?

  • Yes.  Be sure to exit training using the “Exit” button.

WARNING! You must use the “Exit” button or your training will not be saved.

  • The "Start" button next to your course will allow you to resume your training at any time.

    How will I know if I have successfully completed training?
  • Web-based training:
    • You will see a completion screen that lets you know that you have completed that training.
    • If there is an assessment (i.e. quiz) for the training then the confirmation will indicate your completion score.
  • Instructor-led training:
    • The training instructor will indicate in the system that you have completed the course.  

    What does my Training Record include?

  • Your Training Record will list any training that you have registered for in Knowledge Link
  • In addition, some training groups on campus have made previous training records available.

    What is contained in Training Resources?

  • Training Resources contains a link to the Knowledge Link Library, which contains documents related to training courses.

Printing Training Certificates   

In order to view and print a certificate as proof of course completion, log into Knowledge Link and click the "Training Record" link in the left hand navigation menu. You should see the list of all your completed training. Click the red and black "Certificate" icon on the right, and the course's certificate will open in a new window. You can print this certificate. Note: not all courses offer a certificate.


Trouble Shooting   

    I have attempted to start my course but nothing happens

  • If your training fails to successfully open a new window, then you might have a Pop-up Blocker enabled. You need to find the blocker icon on your browser and disable that functionality before you can start your training. If you cannot locate an icon similar to those pictured below, then you may need to look in your Tools menu.or

    I completed my Training but it remains in my Incomplete Box ?

  • Your browser settings are not set for an optimal experience within Knowledge Link. Click the link below for step-by-step instructions on modifying your settings.

   I started my Training and I cannot click to the next page?
  • Your first step is to maximize your window that contains the Training. If your window is not fully maximized then the link to take you to the next page can appear to be hidden. If you have your window already maximized, then check your screen resolution setting. The Training is designed at a particular minimal setting.
