The Allergy and Immunology Section of the Department of Medicine
trains individuals who have completed residency training in Internal
Medicine for a career in allergy and immunology.
This training program is directed mainly towards preparing individuals
for an academic career which may include basic or clinical research
as well as varying amounts of time spent in clinical practice and
teaching. Such training encompasses at least three years in which
the fellow has intensive exposure to lectures and conferences dealing
with basic immunologic principles and investigation. Sufficient
clinical experience in both the outpatient and inpatient setting
provides the basis for the capacity to function effectively in clinical
practice and teaching. Each fellow undertakes an in-depth research
project as the primary investigator under the close supervision
of one full-time faculty.
