Dr. Musani is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the
Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Division, Director
of Interventional Pulmonary Program at Presbyterian Hosptial
and serves as an Associate Director of the Interventional
Pulmonology Program at Penn. His area of expertise includes
invasive bronchoscopy, management of endobronchial and endotracheal
diseases, lung cancer, and pleural diseases.
Dr. Musani specializes in lung cancer diagnosis using
bronchoscopy and management of airway disorders with techniques
such as airway stenting, endobronchial laser, brachy therapy
(radiation therapy), electrocautery and rigid bronchoscopy.
He also specializes in insertion and management of indwelling
pleural catheters for malignant pleural effusions. Dr. Musani
is affiliated with the lung cancer program of the PENN lung
center.
He has been also involved in clinical and research programs
in Asthma, empysema, and Pulmonary alveolar proteionosis.
Some of his current research projects include, indwelling
pleural catheters for malignant pleural effusion, lung volume
reduction stents for patients with emphysema, and endobronchial
ultra sound study of the airways.
Dr. Musani received medical education at Dow Medical College
in Pakistan. He started his research training in molecular
biology at the University of California, San Francisco.
He then did residency in Internal Medicine at the State
University of New York at Brooklyn. During which he was
involved in transplant immunology and lung transplant research.
During his fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University, he
was an integral part of the bronchoscopic research studies
of asthma. Dr. Musani did an additional fellowship at PENN
as a first Interventional Pulmonology fellow. He received
extensive training, both locally and internationally in
complicated lung diseases requiring bronchoscopic procedures
and Pleural procedures.
