Dr. Taichman's clinical and research interests are in pulmonary vascular disease and critical care medicine. He is the Associate Director of Penn's Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program, a multi-disciplinary program specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension as well as acute and chronic thromboembolic disease. Dr. Taichman’s research focuses on understanding both the basic biology and clinical manifestations of pulmonary vascular diseases. Dr. Taichman is also the Clinical Director of the Penn-CMREF Center for Pulmonary Hypertension Research, part of a national, multi-centered initiative collecting biologic samples to foster research in this field. Among his clinical investigations are studies of neurocognitive function and deficits, and determinants of quality of life in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension. Dr. Taichman’s studies also involve the establishment of a database and blood repository for the study of protein expression patterns, genetic and other risk factors influencing the development of pulmonary hypertension and response to therapy. His basic science investigations have also focused on the molecular mechanisms controlling pulmonary vascular development.

Dr. Taichman is also a member of the Education and Publications Division of the American College of Physicians. Here, his work includes the development of educational programs and services for physicians practicing internal medicine and its subspecialties.

Dr. Taichman is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases and Critical Care Medicine
