Dr. Krymskaya's research interests are in the signal transduction mechanisms regulating cell growth, proliferation and migration. Her basic science studies are translated into the identifying therapeutic targets to treat rare lung cancer lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM), pulmonary arterial hypertension and asthma. Dr. Krymskaya discovered the function of tumor suppressor TSC2 as a negative regulator of S6K1, and S6K1 as a molecular target to treat LAM disease. This discovery was immediately transferred to the clinic, and the first clinical trail for LAM patients started at the Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. For this achievement Dr. Krymskaya has honored by The Science Advancement Award from The LAM Foundation.
