The Department of Medicine at the Hospital of the University
of Pennsylvania and the Department
of Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia are
proud to offer a combined Internal Medicine/Pediatrics Residency
Training Program. We are accepting applications for an entering
class in 2009. This four-year program is designed to cultivate
young physicians into academic internal medicine/pediatric physicians.
The diversity of clinical experiences, the proximity of the two
institutions, and research opportunities available at our institutions
make this a unique training opportunity for those with such interests.
The four years of curriculum has been designed jointly by the
Departments of Medicine and Pediatrics under the direction of
Dr. Todd Barton and Dr. Stephen Ludwig. The curriculum provides
for 3-6 month blocks in each specialty during each training year.
Each successive year allows for progression of responsibility
that includes supervision of junior trainees, as well as medical
students in both departments. Scholarship is expected, particularly
in this program given its desire to cultivate the next generation
of academic internal medicine/pediatric physicians. A comprehensive
and diverse outpatient experience is provided by having residents
alternate bi-weekly in internal medicine and pediatrics outpatient
clinics over the course of four years. (Click here for a detailed
rotation outline by year of training).
