Clinical Clerkship in General Medicine

ME 200 (HUP, VAMC, PMC & PAH)
Team / Group Assigns Block 4 ME 200 - is a 8 week required clerkship in medicine. It is designed as a continuation of the introductory experience to clinical medicine with the emphasis shifted from the classroom and small group teaching to a more independent experience.  Students learn the general principles of Internal Medicine including differential diagnosis and therapeutics through direct patient care experiences in the inpatient setting, didactic conferences, case studies, and independent learning.

Junior Internship in Medicine

ME 400 (HUP, VAMC & PMC)
General Information Students are assigned to a team, replace an intern and manage a full patient load. This is primarily a practical experience in the broad field of general inpatient medicine. It is intended to supplement the required Clinical Clerkship in Medicine (200) and to provide students with the experience necessary to be prepared for a medicine internship. This course is only available to Penn medical students.

Externship in Outpatient Medicine

Implications of Recent Clinical Trials for the National Cholesterol Education Program Ault Treatment Panel III Guidelines
[Full Article]
The externship in outpatient internal medicine is a 4 week clinical elective that focuses on acquiring the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for managing common outpatient medical conditions. This course is designed to provide students with an experience that will prepare them for the practice of outpatient medicine similar to what they will experience as internal medicine residents. Students must have successfully completed the internal medicine core clerkship (ME200) as well as the Family Medicine core clerkship (FM200) prior to enrolling in this rotation. This course is only available to Penn medical students.
