Welcome to MiNT
The Center for Biomedical Micro and
Nanotechnology
With nanotechnology's
influence continually expanding into the farthest reaches
of science and technology, more and more heads are coming
together to harness its potential for the betterment
of society. Large-scale projects such as the National
Institutes of Health Nanomedicine Roadmap Initiative
and the National Science Foundation's Materials Research
Science and Engineering Centers (MRSEC), not to mention
the wealth of efforts based at academic institutions
all over the world, spur the momentum of micro and nanotechnology.
It is hoped that within no time at all, the laboratory,
the hospital, and the home alike will all benefit from
these maturing technologies.
While specialization is beginning to assert itself
as the next stage of micro and nanotechnology research,
there is still a void of highly-focused centers of study
within the field. The Center for Biomedical Micro and
Nanotechnology, founded in 2005 within the University
of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, represents the first
institution of its kind, one which seeks to zero in
on the potential for utility at the intersection of
nanotechnology and medical diagnostics. Laboratory medicine
is one of the many medical disciplines with immense
potential for advancement through development of nano
and microtechnologies. MiNT seeks to be a leader in
this wave of advancement, transforming the face of diagnostic
medicine.
