Webmail -
The Outlook Exchange 2003 webmail site enables you to access your
UPHS Exchange e-mail account using the Internet
Explorer web browser, via any Internet Service Provider. Plus this new
service
has the look and feel of the Outlook 2003 client software! Webmail is an easy
way to access your e-mail and there is no charge for this service.
This service is the preferred remote access e-mail option. Best
of all, you can use your own ISP, and you do not need a UPHS VPN account
just to check your e-mail!

Internet Service Providers
|
|
|
|
UPHS users will need to subscribe to their own ISP
solution in order to connect to the Internet. Once connected to the
Internet, they will be able to use a VPN tunnel to enter the UPHS
internal network.
|
|
|
|
Before subscribing to an ISP (dial-up, Cable Modem or DSL), please check with
the service provider to see if they have any constraints about VPN usage over
their networks. Most modern Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
that use Network Address Translation (NAT2) should be capable of allowing
the UPHS (Nortel) VPN client to access our internal network.
VPN connection via AOL has been problematic and should be avoided. |

the former PennNet remote access, which was discontinued on August 1, 2000. The
service is available to UPHS employees at a discounted monthly rate. There
are local numbers for the tri-state area, and an 800 number is available
for an additional cost. As the customer, you are responsible for the cost
of this service. To be able to apply, you will need a valid UPHS email
address (user@uphs.upenn.edu, user@mail.med.upenn.edu, or user@pahosp.com). |
