Global Health Track

International medicine and global health has been a long-standing part of the mission of the University of Pennsylvania. A Global Health Track is available for neurology residents interested in providing neurological care to patients in underdeveloped countries. In these settings, residents are often the sole neurological provider in the entire country. The track provides the skills necessary to diagnose and manage neurological disease in a setting of low clinical resources.

The track involves two separate one month rotations in the PGY-3 or PGY-4 year in our affiliated hospital in Botswana. The resident will also attend global health seminars sponsored by the Department of Medicine and the global health office. In concert with a faculty mentor, the resident will also conduct a scholarly pursuit project on a global health topic of their choice. The results of the project will presented at the end of year research forum for the graduating neurology residents.

One resident in each residency year may elect to be part of the program. If more than resident desires to be part of the program in a given residency year, a resident will be selected by faculty committee.
