Research Opportunities

Research is an important aspect of our mission at Penn. Opportunities exist during the second and third year elective rotations to engage in basic research projects under the direct supervision of a Penn faculty member.

All residents are expected to participate in the Patient Oriented Research program. Residents are able to conceptualize and carry out individual research projects in basic, translational, or clinical areas of neurology. Projects are closely mentored by department faculty and supported by a weekly conference. Many resident projects have ultimately resulted in publications, conference presentations, and grant applications.

In addition, Penn has an R25 grant funded by the NIH. This grant allows residents the opportunity to perform at least 6 continuous months of dedicated research time during their PGY-3 or PGY-4 years. This resident will have the opportunity to take courses at the University of Pennsylvania Center for Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
