Systems Neuroscience

In the brain, with more than ten billion neurons and many more points of connection, issues of large-scale organization and information processing are critical. Systems neuroscience addresses these issues at a number of levels.

Penn neuroscientists are investigating how groups of nerve cells are organized into small and large neural circuits that control particular behaviors. Systems neuroscience acts as a bridge that connects studies at the cellular and synaptic levels of analysis to cognition and behavior.
