Research Experience
- Bartoli Brain Tumor Laboratory, Columbia University New York, NY July 2000 -
June 2001 and July 2003 - May 2004.
- Investigated the efficacy of anti-angiogenic and anti-edema compounds in vitro and in vivo using an
intracranial syngeneic rat glioma model. Developed an in vivo model to demonstrate changes in brain tumor
blood vessels following anti-angiogenic and anti-edema therapy using florescent angiography and digital
imaging. Defined the angiogenic profiles of ex vivo glioblastoma multiforme specimens through the use of
ELISA and functional assays. Investigated the effects of in vitro culture on the secretion of
immunomodulatory cytokines by glioblastomas. Used MRI imaging to investigate the effects of corticosteroids
and novel anti-edema compounds on rat brain tumor vascular permeability.
- Research Associate Neurology, Children's Hospital Boston, MA August 1996 - August 1997.
- Demonstrated the effects of phosphocreatine and guanidine analogues on energy storage buffers in brain
mitochondria. Conducted MRI studies on the effects of creatine analogues on resistance to hypoxia injury
in neonates.
- Brown University Medical Research Laboratories, Providence, RI September 1994 - June 1995.
- Investigated the role of Apolipoprotein E and beta-amyloid in the pathology of Alzheimer's disease.
Developed a protocol for neuronal tissue culture.
- Research Associate Clinical Immunology, Roger William's Hospital Clinical Immunology and Pathology,
Providence, RI Summer 1994.
- Documented the effects of pre-clinical pharmaceuticals on the modulation of macrophage cytokine
production. Developed a protocol for drug delivery and macrophage harvest. Performed cell counts and cell
line maintenance.
- NIH Research Internship Neurological Diseases and Movement Disorders NIH/NINDS Bethesda, Maryland
Summer 1993.
- Conducted research on cortical and subcortical functional abnormalities in patients with Alzheimer's
disease, Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia through the use of PET imaging.
