Mickey Gallagher's "Keep The Beat"
Mickey Gallagher, was a heart transplant patient at the Penn Transplant Institute at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Sadly, Mickey is no longer with us, but he had a dream he wanted to see continued on: to hold a party full of friends, loved ones, good food and music which would raise funds to help transplant patients and their families. That was ten years ago. Even though Mickey is no longer with us, his family and friends "keep the party going" in honor of their loved one and to continue to do what they can to benefit transplant patients. Proceeds from this year’s "Keep the Beat" event is going to benefit the Clyde F. Barker Penn Transplant House where one of the suites is named in honor of Mickey.
For only $25 per person, guests enjoy a DJ, live music with Secret Service, Please, Please Me, Brian Bortnic, good food and drink – at no extra cost – at Finnegan’s Wake in Northern Liberties. There will also be a large Chinese Auction with plenty of prizes, and a 50/50 cash give away. To commemorate the 10th anniversary of this event the Foundation is giving free t-shirts – one per person – first come, first served.
The Clyde F. Barker Penn Transplant House, opened this past June. A "home away from home" designed to help ease the unique economic and emotional stresses of transplant families, the facility is modeled after the Ronald McDonald Houses and named for the physician who performed the first kidney transplant at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 1966. The Barker Transplant House – located at 3940 Spruce Street on Penn's campus only a few blocks from the hospital – offers comfortable, convenient accommodations in a ultra-modern, bright, positive and supportive community setting - all at a nominal cost.
The House which is staffed 24-7 by Penn Transplant Institute employees – and has a community kitchen, dining room, living room, fitness room, laundry facilities, an education center/conference area, landscaped center court yard and 12 residential suites that can accommodate four adult per room – 48 total.
